Sumac is the dried powdered fruit of a flowering plant, it has a red colour and is traditionally used in Middle Eastern cooking. The plant is grown mostly in East Asia, Africa & North America. Sumac has a tangy, tart & citrusy flavour that is very distinct and is a wonderful addition to many different savoury dishes. It’s used in recipes to give them a little flair and excitement.
Add a pinch of this brightly coloured spice to your favourite meat or fish rubs, or shake over roast vegetable trays to give them a unique flavour. Sprinkle over your hummus or tabouleh or add to your dressings, vinaigrettes or salads. You could also add to your rice for a delicious taste and pop of colour. This is a delicious tangy spice that’ll add excitement to any savoury dish.
