About
Sesame seeds are the seeds of Sesamum indicum, an annual tropical plant which is probably native to Africa. The sesame plant is cultivated throughout Asia as well, and the seeds play a vital role in many ethnic cuisines. Sesame seeds are used whole, ground into pastes such as tahini, or pressed for their rich, nutty oil.
Uses
Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top of breakfast bowls, porridge, granola, muesli or yoghurt and fresh fruit. Sesame seeds similarly add a delicious, seedy flavour to bread, savoury dishes like stir-fries, curries and soups. For additional flavour from sesame seeds, lightly toast them in a pan over low heat, moving and tossing constantly until you start smelling their beautiful aroma. Use sesame seeds instead of bread crumbs for coating fish, meat, tempeh or as a crispy topping to veggie and pasta bakes. The uses are endless and delicious!
